Stitches From The Heart

Knitting and crocheting volunteer group meets regularly at Lynbrook Public Library.

Needles click and conversation buzzes in an upstairs room of the Lynbrook Public Library. Every Wednesday, women of all ages gather from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to make hats, caps, scarves, blankets, and quilts for Stitches From The Heart.

The fruits of the group's labor go to breast (pink scarves) and prostate cancer (blue scarves) patients, hospitals, veterans groups, and homeless shelters. The group was started by Barbara Barnhart of Lynbrook, who is also the NY state representative for Stitches From The Heart.

The group began meeting at the Lynbrook library in February 2009, and is going strong with 20-25 knitters or crocheters attending weekly. Everyone is welcome and yarn, patterns and advice is available.

Donations of yarn are welcome and can be dropped off at the library. For more information on the national group, visit www.stitchesfromtheheart.org.
