WH Girl Scouts Build Garden at Hall's Pond

Flower garden built for West Hempstead Lion's Club.

West Hempstead Junior Girl Scout Troop 1107 recently helped the West Hempstead chapter of the Lion’s Club build a flower garden in front of their sign in Hall’s Pond.

The girls were excited because they really wanted to plan a garden somewhere and this was the perfect opportunity for them to do it.

The planning began in the fall of 2012 when the troop took a trip over to the site, measured the area around the sign and researched different types of flowers and bushes that they could plant.

As spring approached, the girls and their parents planned an Earth Day weekend setup and planting.

The garden was finished on April 22 and on May 5 it was officially dedicated with members of the Lion’s Club, Junior Girl Scout Troop 1107 and Nassau County Legislator Vincent Muscarella.

The Lion’s Club president thanked the girls and their families for all the hard work and planning that went into the garden. She also presented them with their bronze award pins since the troop decided to use the construction of the garden as part of their bronze award project.

The troop performed 20 hours of community service to earn their bronze award by working at Habitat for Humanity, caroling at the Atria, assisting and planning girl scout events, and helping out after Hurricane Sandy.

A thank you goes to Giordano’s Nursery, Fischetti Landscaping, Westminister Nursery, Franklin Square Farms, Lowes and Garden World for the generous donations to help in the construction of the garden.
