It's also worth noting that then Mayor Koch paid a visit to West Hempstead on March 9, 1982 for a…Read More "working lunch"/ photo-op with Nassau County Executive Frank Purcell at Gum Ying (a landmark restaurant at the corner of Eagle and Hempstead Aves, now a CVS). That visit got alot of press coverage at the time. Koch was in the midst of a primary fight for the governorship with Mario Cuomo and his visit was designed to a) show that he could work well with Republicans and b) deal with fallout of a recent notorious interview with Playboy Magazine in which he said, ""Have you ever lived in the suburbs? It's sterile. It's nothing. It's wasting your life."

Yesterday, Nassau County paid farewell to one of its finest. By all accounts, Highway Patrolman…Read More Joseph Olivieri was a cop's cop who made his family, his friends and his beloved department proud. All to often in today's fast past world we loose sight of the dedicated, tireless and vigilant service preformed by Nassau County's Finest. All to often the inherent dangers of the job surface and there are times when even one of the Finest falls. Let us remember this good mans sacrifice and for his commitment to put the safety and security of others first. Rest in peace Officer Olivieri. May God Bless you and provide comfort to all those suffering by your passing.

Don't you conspiracy theorists think that a cops kid (Mr.Ryan) would be the one avioiding…Read More prosecution if all these scary theories you say are true???????? Did you miss that in the article?? I do agree--the Escalade should be looked into--but how do you know it wasn't????
Leave the law to the professionals. The lawyers make it entertaining enough. A police officer was killed performing his duties. I can promise you any and every avenue was checked and double checked, especially because of an officers death.
Common Sense October 25, 2012 at 05:42 pm
Yes this absolutely REEKS of politics and cover up.
Did the driver of the Cadillac escalade give a…Read More blood sample?? Why not?? They killed a police officer after all.
Oh wait, I forgot, there was someone in the vicinity with a BAC of .09
An easy target for political gain. An easy scapegoat to get the connected Cadillac driver off the hook.
Maybe a fundraiser for mr Ryan's defense is in order.
We can't allow witch hunters to prevail. Not in the 21st century.
And a special investigation should be conducted to determine why the Cadillac Escalade is not being held accountable for their actions.

Andrew was my father's first cousin, and Andrew and Cleo are the reason that I live in Malverne.…Read More Many years ago they called with the news that a home was for sale in their neighborhood, and we bought it. They made a lovely home, and their children have raised beautiful children of their own. As so many members of that greatest generation, my parents included, leave us, it leaves a huge void. I will always think of them.
Tom Grech October 9, 2012 at 06:30 pm

A true gentle soul with the warmest smile and biggest heart. His priority was the students of the…Read More Lynbrook School District. He didnt care if your child played a sport or instrument, was a writer or an artist. Dr. B was always full of praise, encouragement and pride. He loved this community which he referred to as Lynbrook USA almost as much as the district which he affectionately led for for the past 3 years.
As a fitting tribute to his legacy, the new athletic field which is to be built at Marion Street Elementary School AND the new Music Room at the West End Elelmentary School should both be named in his memory.
Thank you Dr. Barbarino. We have lost one of a kind.

The first time I met Bill I had a crush on him. Mary, Bills girfriend at the time had shown me…Read More pictures of Bill and I was so excited to meet him. He was such a gentle soul and took my sexual harasment with a grain of salt. He never got mad and we had a good laugh the three of us. Later Bill and Mary were married and I met Bill again and still he was just a great guy with a Happy Outlook on life looking foward to the next time he would go fishing with his pal Patrick, Marys dog. Bill wrote a moving article about Patrick which was published in a fishing magazine. And one did not know untill the end of the article that Patrick was a dog. Bill has certainly left a good impression on everyone that meets him and we will all miss him. Goodbye old friend.
