Davison Avenue School
49 Davison Ave, Lynbrook, NY 11563
Davison Avenue School is part of the Malverne Union Free School District, but the building is actually located in theMore village of Lynbrook. In the early 1990s, Davison Avenue earned the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award. Built in 1921, it is the oldest school building in the district. When the school first opened, it only had six classrooms, but four years later it underwent extensive renovations. This added eight more rooms and a combination gymnasium-auditorium, which until 1932 also served as the home basketball court and assembly room for the high school. Six more rooms were added in 1951, and around 2007, a new playground was installed on the school grounds. In 2010, the school underwent a transformation that changed Davison Avenue School from a kindergarten-through-fourth-grade school to one that was solely responsible for educating all of the district's third and fourth graders. (All the younger students in the district were consolidated into Downing School.)
