In the 1930s, the school educated students from Nassau County with infantile paralysis who required special services, and in the 1960s, the school was federally intergrated. Today, the school educates nearly 400 students each year. Famous former students include Olympic gold medalist Derrick Adkins and members of the Tuskegee Airmen.
