Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps
PO Box 43, Malverne, NY 11565
A member of the Malverne Lions Club introduced the idea of of purchasing an ambulance for the village in 1967, after aMore young boy who lived on his street was struck by a car while riding his bicycle. The boy had laid there for 25 minites waiting for a county ambulance to arrive. After this incident, several members of the Lions Club and their president, Jon Viunu, went door-to-door and raised $6,000 to purchase an ambulance. Then, four Lions Club members and 19 village came together to form the Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps and raised an additional $1,000 to purchase the necessary equipment. They all completed 18 months of first aid training and then put the ambulance to service on a 24-hour basis. Today, MVAC has over 40 members and two fully equipped ambulances. In 2010, local groups came together to hold a concert to raise money to build a headquarters for the Malverne Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
