Cornwell Avenue Elementary School is a public school in the West Hempstead Union Free School District. It was founded inMore 1956, the same year as West Hempstead Middle School. About 360 students in first through fifth grade are educated here. Students get a preview of some clubs and activities that will be available to them in student newsletter. Several interesting and enjoyable events are open to students, their families and the rest of the community throughout the year, including the annual Fall Festival.
Chestnut Street School

Chestnut Street School was built in 1912 and is the oldest of the buildings in the West Hempstead school district. ItMore was a four-room school house until the district added the back wing in 1927. Two decades later, it constructed the front portion, which now serves as the district's administration building. Today, the school provides instruction to approximately 135 kindergarten students. The school grounds also have a baseball field and playground.
West Hempstead Middle School

Adjacent to West Hempstead High School, the middle school provides public education for students throughout the districtMore in grades six through eight. The district constructed the middle school in 1956, three years after opening the high school. A bridge connects the two buildings, which are both located on a plot of land that originally served as a farm. The farmhouse still exists near the property today. More than 450 students fill the school's classrooms each year and participate in a wide range of after-school activities, sports teams and clubs.
