Assemblyman Robert Barra represents Lynbrook residents in the state's 14th Assembly District. Barra, first elected inMore 2000, has had an illustrious career in the Lynbrook community. He graduated Lynbrook High School, served as a Lynbrook village trustee and represented the village as a Town of Hempstead councilman. As a state lawmaker, Barra helped strengthen state gun regulations after a priest was fatally shot at a Lynbrook church in 2002. Barra lives in North Lynbrook with his wife and two daughters.

Incorporated in 1911, the village of Lynbrook now has a population of about 20,000. Lynbrook is run out of VillageMore Hall, located at 1 Columbus Drive, where its building department, department of public works, police force and court are also stationed.</p> <p>A mayor and four trustees make up the Lynbrook village board. Each position is a four-year term.</p> <p>Lynbrook has its own television station, LYN-TV, which broadcasts board meetings and posts advisories and other important information about the village. Cablevision customers can see LYN-TV on channel 20. Verizon-FIOS customers can see it on channels 33 and 34.<br /><br />In 2010, Lynbrook was named an All-America City finalist for its dedication to providing affordable housing, expanding its tax base and diversifying its workforce. </p>
