#99 - Browse the Aisles of Miller's Housewares

The second installment, and #99 in our countdown of 100 Things to Do in Lynbrook, is .

Having lived in Lynbrook for 47 years as previously mentioned in my first installment, I have visited this place probably 100 times or more. As a youngster, I remember walking up to Atlantic Avenue to visit this store almost every Saturday with my family or friends. We always seemed to need something. I remember once, many years ago, I was having a party in the middle of the summer, and where else but Miller's Housewares could I go in hot-weather months to get Christmas lights?

The current owners — Stuart and Michael (Miller's is family-owned since 1944 — went upstairs into their stockroom and came back with all that I needed for my party. I bet they remember this story … I bought a lot of lights.

When every other place was sold out of shovels, salt and snow-blowers, Miller's still had them in stock. When you are looking for a unique gift, a Webkins, an old game you haven’t seen in years, or a rare old fixture needs a replacement part, this is the first place you go to look. You are always met with the same familiar faces, Stuart and Michael, who are always there and willing to help you find what you need. The rest of their staff is also friendly and available to help you find what you need — with a smile. It is a place like Cheers, where everybody knows your name.

This is not a place you visit once and never return. This is a place to go to over and over. When you need something to do, walk around and look at the treasures they carry. I guarantee you will not walk out of there empty-handed.
