Dec. 11: Fire Commission Elections, Billy Crystal, School Board and More

A look at the top stories for this Tuesday in Malverne, West Hempstead and Lynbrook.

Here are the top five headlines for Dec. 11.

  1. Fire Commission Elections: Residents in the West Hempstead Fire District can vote in today's Fire Commission Elections for either Avi Rosman or Susan Scognamiglio. Incumbent Fred "Sandy" Senti is also running unopposed in the commissioner election in the Lakeview Fire District. Polls will be open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at both fire houses.
  2. Billy Crystal: Award-winning actor Billy Crystal was in Lynbrook Monday, visiting with residents from his hometown of Long Beach who were impacted by Superstorm Sandy and treating them to free screenings of his new film. We'll have the story later today.
  3. Malverne School Board: The Malverne Board of Education will be holding its monthly business meeting tonight at 8 p.m. in the high school. Look for the agenda later this morning to see what they'll be discussing.
  4. House Fire: Firefighters knocked down a fire Monday night in the second-floor of a Malverne home. Click here for the story and photos.

The problem is that our state is in dire financial trouble and we can’t afford it. Upstate NY is a distressed disaster. How much more taxes are we going to pay?. Hear those feet marching out of state. Try fighting for drilling so we have jobs and revenue.

Not to mention 13 week vacations as well as numerous 1/2 days and weather shortened days. A $50000 band aid we end up paying indirectly anyway only increases taxes further down the road. They are either that stupid or they think we are!
