The holiday spirit burned bright in the village of Malverne Saturday night as residents filled the streets for their annual tree lighting.
The Dever School band kicked off the festivities in the evening and then passed the baton to the Pride of Malverne High School Marching Band, which led the parade of 'elves" and Santa's sleigh down Hempstead Avenue.
Then, families, local officials and clergymen gathered near the Malverne train station where the village's tree was lit and its Nativity was blessed.
On the other side of town, a Nativity scene came to life complete with real animals including a donkey. Youngsters visited with Santa and throughout the village residents were entertained by singers, dancers, an ice sculptor, horse carriage rides and Frosty.
