Halloween Weekend Events: Oct. 26-28

A round-up of scary walks, costume parades and other hauntings in the neighborhood.

Since Halloween falls on a Wednesday this year, this weekend will bring some early spooks, scares and other strange things to the neighborhood.

Who you gonna call? Patch is here to help you get a handle on everything that's going on so you don't miss a thing.

Here's a round-up of some of the Halloween-themed events happening this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Malverne, Lynbrook, West Hempstead and nearby Rockville Centre.

  • Once Upon a Midnight Dreary

When: Friday, Oct. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m.

Where: Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's, 480 Hempstead Ave., Malverne

What: The recently-revived Malverne Community Theatre performs its first show, "Once Upon a Midnight Dreary," an original piece that brings to life the dark poetry of Edgar Allan Poe. Tickets are $15. Click here for to learn more about the show.

  • Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's Halloween at the Farm

When: Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's, 480 Hempstead Ave., Malverne

What: Crossroads Farm hosts its first Halloween party, which will feature scary story-telling, hayrides and farm tours for all ages. Admission is free. At 8 p.m., the Malverne Community Theatre will bring the dark poetry of Edgar Allan Poe to life at the farm. (see above)

  • Lynbrook Village's "Halloween Havoc"

When: Sunday, Oct. 28 from noon-3 p.m. (Rain date is Oct. 29 at Greis Park from 3-6 p.m.)

Where: Earle Avenue and St. James Place, Lynbrook 

What: The Village of Lynbrook kicks off its annual Halloween Havoc celebration at noon with a kids costume parade (participants should line up at 11:30 a.m. in the Earle Avenue parking field). From noon to 3 p.m., families can venture through the Spooky Walk, enjoy a bouncy castle, slide, prizes, DJ music and pumpkin and cookie decorating. From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., a magician will also perform.

  • Malverne Ragamuffin Parade

When: Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m.

Where: Reese Park on Church Street in Malverne

What: The village of Malverne invites kids to participate in its annual Ragamuffin Parade. Come show off your Halloween costume and then stay for refreshments and pumpkin decorating.

  • Spooky Fest

When: Friday, Oct. 26-Sunday, Oct. 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. 

Where: Center for Science, Teaching and Learning at Tanglewood Preserve, 1 Tanglewood Rd., Rockville Centre

What: Every year families from around Long Island flock to Spooky Fest to enjoy Tanglewood's famous Scary Walk through "haunted woods" for older kids and a Not-So-Spooky Walk for younger children. New this year is a Maze of Madness. Admission ($10 per person) also includes goodie bags (for first 200 kids each night), crafts, tours of Tanglewood's Amazing Animals Live Animal Exhibit, now featuring dinosaur bones and a full size T-Rex, fortune-telling and face painting.

  • Tales Tombstones Tell- Historic Cemetery Walk

When: Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. (arrive by 12:45 p.m; Rain date is Nov. 4)

Where: Rockville Cemetery, 45 Merrick Road, Rockville Centre

What: The Historical Society of East Rockaway and Lynbrook will be hosting their second annual Historic Cemetery Walk. Set inside the Rockville Cemetery, 12 historic characters "come alive" to share their stories about East Rockaway and Lynbrook in the olde days. They will recount their life and the role they played in antiquity. Tickets are $10 per person must be purchased in advance at the Lyn Gift Shop (11 Atlantic Ave., Lynbrook) or by calling 887-9094. Children must be 12 or older to participate.

  • The Jumping Gym's Halloween Party for Infants and Toddlers

When: Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.

Where: The Jumping Gym, 300 Hempstead Tpke, West Hempstead

What: This Halloween bash is perfect for kids ages 5 and under. Come play in the gym and also enjoy treats and enter a costume contest, where the winner will receive a free birthday party at The Jumping Gym. The event is free for members, $5 for non-members.

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Bazaar

When: Friday, Oct. 26, from 6-10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27, from 3-10 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 28, from 1-7 p.m.

Where: Our Lady of Lourdes School parking lot, 76 Park Blvd., Malverne

What: OLL's annual bazaar features popular carnival rides, games, food and other family fun.

  • Bridge Harvest Festival

When: Saturday, Oct. 27 1 p.m.-5 p.m. (Rain date: Oct. 28, 3-6 p.m.)

Where: The Bridge Church, 1 Norwood Ave., Malverne

What: The Bridge Church of the Nazarene in Malverne will host its first Harvest Festival, open to all families in the area. Enjoy plenty of family fun and activities for everyone including free bounce houses, face painting, airbrush tattoos, games, cider, doughnuts, and much more. The main event will be a   free Trunk O’ Treating featuring 20-plus decorated car trunks filled with candy!

  • Rolling River Annual Fall Festival 

When: Saturday, Oct. 27 from noon to 4 p.m. (Rain date Oct. 28)

Where: Rolling River Day Camp, 477 Ocean Ave., East Rockaway

What: Rolling River Day Camp hosts its annual Fall Festival, a free event open to all families that features carnival rides, Halloween trick-or-treating, sponsor giveaways, food, refreshments, a petting zoo, face painting, music, children’s demos, interactive crafts, a vendor fair and more. Wear your Halloween costume! All families who attend have a chance to win a birthday party on the camp grounds.
