16 Handles Opens For Business in Lynbrook

New frozen yogurt shop has a successful grand opening.

Frozen treat connoisseurs in Lynbrook have a new option to satisfy their tastebuds in the village.

The frozen yogurt chain 16 Handles recently set up shop at 27 Atlantic Ave., just around the corner from . Across the country, 16 Handles has 50 franchises that have already opened or are in the process of opening.

The new Lynbrook shop opened its doors for the first time on Aug. 8. The grand opening was a success, according to owner Paul Cervoni, as more than 700 customers from a number of surrounding neighborhoods were served.

Variety is one of the draws of 16 Handles, which offers customers 16 different flavors of frozen yogurt and more than 50 toppings to choose from. The store follows a self-serve format in which customers are able to mix and match their own flavor and topping combinations.

“Everybody enjoys being able to create their own mixture of flavors and toppings as opposed to just asking over the counter,” Cervoni said. “It gives them more flexibility and allows them to be a little more creative."

According to Cervoni, the most popular flavor so far has been chocolate and the most popular topping is a tie between strawberries and rainbow cookie.

To accomodate customers' different nutritional needs, 16 Handles offers four varieties of yogurt. Besides standard frozen yogurt, there is also a water-based sorbet with no dairy at all, a sugar-free yogurt and a premium low-fat yogurt that contains about half the amount of calories of regular yogurt.

In addition to these four varieties, 16 Handles also sells take-home cakes, take-home quarts and frozen yogurt sandwiches, as well as different juices.

Customers should be happy to hear that 16 Handles offers a rewards program.  For every $5 a customer spends, they receive one stamp on their card. After receiving four stamps, the customer gets $4 off of their next purchase.

Cervoni said that the close proximity of the store to Lynbrook's movie theater has benefited business.

“In the evenings, it has definitely helped,” Cervoni said. “Once the movies have let out, you see quite a line come in all in one shot.”

Cervoni also said that 16 Handles’ unique mix of flavors and toppings, as well as its overall atmosphere, make it a “nice place to come and hang out.”
