The annual celebration of mothers was started by Anna Jarvis from Grafton, W.Va. She wanted to accomplish her own mother’s dream of making a celebration for all mothers.
It was made officially a holiday in 1914 by President Woodrow Wilson.
Mother’s Day is one of the biggest days for sales of flowers, greeting cards, jewelry, and it is also the largest holiday for long-distance phone calls.
