Lynbrook Chamber Appoints New Officers

Members of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce met The Atria Lynbrook on Tuesday to discuss Chamber business and appoint a president, vice president and Board of Directors for new two-year terms.

The Chamber's Board of Directors elected to keep President Bill Gaylor, owner of , and Executive Vice President Denise Rogers, branch manager at , in their respective positions for another two years.

The board also discussed ways that members not currently on the board could become more involved in the Chamber. Polly Talbot, board member and owner of on Atlantic Avenue, said she felt that a lot of members want to help promote the Chamber and be on some of the Chamber committees — which currently are comprised of only board members— but don't necessarily feel comfortable reaching out to the board. She said perhaps if non-board Chamber members were able to serve on committees, they might feel more included in Chamber business.

The board was in agreement that it needed to do something along those lines to reach out to Chamber members.

The board also discussed upcoming events, namely its annual Installation of Officers and Awards Dinner, which will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m.

Vice President of Membership Stephen Wangel, who works on the Chamber's website, said traffic to the website has tripled in the past year — a very good thing for the Chamber, he said. He is currently working on creating a coupon page for the website, on which businesses could promote their sales and deals.

Gaylor, addressing several dozen Chamber members at the meeting, said local businesses have struggled to weather the ongoing economic situation, and it will continue to be challenging in the near future.

"We have a very full plate," Gaylor said, "and we need everyone on the board to work hard."
