West Hempstead Will Celebrate 3 New Businesses

Here's some good news for West Hempstead's local economy - three new businesses have recently opened on Hempstead Turnpike.

On Saturday, the West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce will be holding back-to-back-to-back ribbon-cuttings at Hats Off Restaurant (205 Hempstead Tpk.), KW Kitchens (207 Hempstead Tpk.) and Sam's Caribbean Marketplace (225 Hempstead Tpk.) between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The chamber is encouraging all local residents to come out to "celebrate the new economic resurgence of Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead" and support these businesses.

The first ribbon-cutting will take place at the recently rennovated Hats Off, a Peruvian restaurant and bar, followed by a second one at KW Kitchen Designs, a mmanufacturer and distributor of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry, imported tiles, custom countertops and Italian doors.

Although the Chamber's third stop will be at Sam's, the store, which is moving from its original location in Hempstead, will actually be starting its grand opening celebration early (at 11 a.m.) and will keep the party going until 6 p.m. It will feature more than a dozen vendor exhibitions, food samplings and taste testings including Jamaican-style Jerk chicken. There will also prizes and "surprises," discounts, live music and numerous outdoor activities.

"It was time for us to make that major leap of faith,” Sam's founder and CEO, Andrew Morris, known as "Mr. Sam" to many customers, said regarding the move. “While our former location served us well for many years, [since December 1993] the room for growth and development were limited and extremely challenging as we had long outgrown the 1600 square-foot facility that we were renting.”

Through its retail location and Website, www.sams24-7.com, Sam's has served close to two million customers throughout the United States, Canada, the UK, and in about sixty other countries, according to Morris.
