Before you unplug and let your mind wander off to the weekend though, check out the top stories making headlines in the community today, including the school budgets, a call to action in Lakeview and a battle between Malverne and West Hempstead.
Here's the top five things to know for April 15:

  1. School Budget Reactions: Both the Malverne and West Hempstead school districts for 2011-2012 earlier this week. As the school boards finalized the proposals residents will vote on next month, there were mixed emotions from the parents, employees and other homeowners present - and even board members. Find out what they had to say later today and learn how you can voice your opinion on the school budgets.
  2. Lakeview's Role Model Search: The Lakeview community is searching for a few good men. Last Saturday, a number of young girls and some boys from the neighborhood gathered inside the Lakeview Public Library to meet a great role model and successful television journalist as part of a local mentoring program. (Check out the video report later today to see who.) Now, tonight the Lakeview Branch of the NAACP will once again call upon the men in the community to step up and help their younger counterparts by joining the "Save Our Sons" campaign. for more details.
  3. Weekend Plans: Although the weather forecast is calling for partly cloudy skies Saturday and showers on Sunday, we have eight reasons for you to be excited about this weekend.
