Tom said, "United Artists (now Regal) first approached the Board about a new theater in 1997. I remember meeting with their local representatives several times when I was a Trustee. I can tell you that Mayor Scarpato spoke to them virtually every month about their plans for the new theater. Here we are 14 years later and nothing has happened.

"In my opinion, Regal is just not serious about spending 8 to 12 million dollars at this site unless they gain 250 or more parking spaces. That is the only way they can justify the magnitude of the investment. Any notion that they are going to incur additional debt to add parking is unrealistic. They expect the Village to foot the bill for these spaces. At a cost of $20,000 or more per space that equates to a 5 million dollar debt to the taxpayers to gain a new theater. My question to all of you is quite simple . Is it worth it?"
