Crime Watch: Gyro Hut, West Hempstead Home Burglarized

A look at crimes reported in the neighborhood this week.

The following information was provided by the Nassau County Police. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

BURGLARIES

A home on Barbara Lane in West Hempstead was burglarized on March 1.

Two Elmont homes were burglarized this week. The first incident occurred on March 2 at a home on Benson Avenue, and the second on March 4 on Selville Street.

A burglary occurred at on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead between Feb. 27 and Feb. 29.

The Sleepy's located on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square was burglarized on Feb. 29. When police responded they found Vincent Piccinonno, of Franklin Square, still inside the store. He was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary.

GRAND LARCENY

A woman who left her unoccuppied vehicle running with the keys in the ignition while parked on W. Merrick Road in Valley Stream on Feb. 29, reported that when she returned to the car 10 minutes later, several items had been stolen.

LARCENY/THEFT

An unknown person stolen an iPod nano and GPS from an unlocked vehicle parked on Elm Street in West Hempstead between March 2 and March 3.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

Four car tires were reportedly punctured on a vehicle that had been parked on Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream on Feb. 28.

An unknown person damaged the hood and passenger side of a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home on N. Waldinger Street in Valley Stream between Feb. 29 and March 1.

The front window of a home on Atlantic Street in Franklin Avenue was damaged by an uknown person on March 4.

An unknown suspect reportedly broke a rear bedroom window of a home located near Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream on March 4 and then fled the scene.
