Feb. 9: Board of Ed, Chocolate, and Whiz Kids

Five things of interest in Lynbrook on Wednesday.

Here are five things of interest in Lynbrook and/or on Lynbrook Patch today:

1 — Most people may go to work from 9 to 5, but on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 a.m., members of the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce are already talking business at their Networking Breakfast at the Lynbrook Diner. Non-members are welcome. The group meets at the east end of the diner.

2 — Over the next couple of months, all eyes will be on the Lynbrook School District. State aid is being reduced and the Board of Education is going to find it difficult to maintain all its programs at an affordable rate for taxpayers. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. This meeting is open to the public, and comments are welcome at the end of the night. Budget work sessions begin next week.

3 — The Lynbrook Public Library's chocolate-dipping workshop, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was moved to today at 3:30 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 are welcome to come create a variety of chocolate-covered treats in a chocolate fountain. Registration is required for this free program. Call the library at (516) 599-8630 for more information.

4 — Don't miss Lynbrook Patch's newest feature, "Whiz Kids," which will be posted on the site later today. "Whiz Kids" will highlight a village youngster or group of youngsters that have done something worthy of recognition in their community. Residents, we welcome your participation in this feature and encourage you to recommend your very own "Whiz Kid."

5 — The Lynbrook village board met on Monday. We'll let you know what was discussed and if there any upcoming village events of interest to the community.
