Five Bewitching Ways to Celebrate Halloween in Malverne-West Hempstead

Get in the spooky spirit with these local events, stories and activities.

The best part about Halloween falling on a Monday this year is that you can stretch out the spooky celebrations all weekend and really get your money's worth out of your costume!

To get you in the spirit today we have your guide to making the most of your Halloween in Malverne and West Hempstead. Here are the five things you need to know to have a ghoulish grand ole' time this year.

  1. Spooky Fest: Head to nearby Tanglewood Preserve in Rockville Centre where the Center for Science Teaching and Learning is hosting its annual Spooky Fest, co-sponsored by the West Hempstead Rotary, from Friday through Sunday. The family-friendly Halloween adventure will feature scary walks (and not-so-spooky treks for the easily frightened) crafts, live animals and goodie bags. for details.
  2. Halloween Parties: A Halloween party will take place Friday night at in Malverne from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the gym. Then, on Monday, the West Hempstead Student Council will throw a Halloween bash for kids in grades K-5 in the cafeteria from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.
  3. Ghosts of Long Island: If you're into the paranormal, head to the Sunday to hear from the Tri-state's most famous pair of ghost hunters. They'll be sharing stories of some ghost legends of Long Island, their past investigations and local haunts including the tale of Mary Hatchet. The program runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  4. Show Off Your Costume: Supermodel and T.V. personality Heidi Klum wants to see what your child is dressing up as for Halloween. Submit a photo of your kid (ages 12 and under) in costume . The winner will get a fabulous trip, a donation to a charity of their choice and meet Heidi! You can also show of your costume at Malverne's Ragamuffin Parade Saturday at 11 a.m. at the , sponsored by the youth board and on Sunday at in West Hempstead, which is having a contest during their party plus free candy, cupcakes and balloons!
  5. Follow the Balloons: We know one place in Malverne where you can definitely find some treats on Halloween. on Hempstead Avenue is hosting a party on Oct. 31 with crafts, games, prizes and ofcouse plenty of candy. Dr. Pennie has also encouraged fellow merchants to display balloons outside their stores on Halloween if they have treats to dole out to local kids too. So if you're searching for sweets, just follow the balloons in town this Halloween!
