Get the scoop on local activities your kids will enjoy this weekend.

Looking for some relief from the cabin fever that’s surely set in? Here are a few ideas to get you and your family out of the house.  Spend some quality time together and enjoy what our area has to offer.

 FEAST ON PANCAKES WITH FAMILY

When: Sunday, Feb. 6  -- 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Why go: Enjoy breakfast with your neighbors and friends. A magician will be entertaining the young and ‘not-as-young’ and there will be no shortage of great food and company.

TAKE OLDER KIDS CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

A NIGHT OF FAITH AND FAMILY

What: Free concert

When: Saturday, Feb. 5 - 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Why go: A night to enjoy free music and refreshments. The Vineyard Church brings you beautifully arranged and performed songs of worship. This event is one the family can enjoy together.

Cost: Free and open to all

ICE YOU CAN ENJOY

Where: Broadway & Sheridan Ave, Hewlett, NY 11557

What: Open ice skating for the entire family

When: Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6

Why go: A cold weather tradition in the making, ice skating with the family. Nothing says “the winter season” better.

Cost: Resident adults $7, resident children $5; Non-resident adults pay $14 and children $10; Skate rentals are $5.

DECORATE VALENTINE'S TREATS

What: Free children’s craft

When: Saturday, Feb. 5 and Sunday, Feb. 6 -- 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Why go: Bring your kids in to make a free Valentine’s Day themed craft in a quaint setting made for your sweet tooth.

KID FLICKS THEY'LL HEART

What: Stories of the Heart Film Festival

When: Sunday, Feb. - 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Why Go: Movies offered will be “I’m In Love with Kimberly Johnson” and the animated short “Puppy’s Super Delicious Valentine’s Day Biscuits.”

Age: 3 and up.

Cost: Free with museum admission or $8 for theater only

CRAFT TIME FOR VALENTINE'S

What: Arts and Crafts “Decorate a Valentine’s Day Box”

When: Sunday, Feb. 6 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Why Go: This make it and take it craft can be used to hold all the Valentines your kids will receive!

Age: 3 and up.

Cost: Free with the purchase of white craft box  

MUSEUM FAMILY DAY

Where: Nassau County Museum of Art (www.nassaumuseum.com)

What: Family Sunday at the Museum

When: Every Sunday at 1 p.m.

Why go: The museum offers supervised art activities for youngsters and their adults: family gallery talks and family-friendly gallery guides. The gallery talks begin at 1 pm followed by an art activity at 1:30.

Cost: Free with museum admission

WALK WITH SEALS

Where: (Jones Beach State Park P.O. Box 1000. Wantagh, NY)

What: Seal Walk

When: Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m.

Why go: Introductory program about seals in our local waters, followed by a leisurely beach walk, lead by a State Park naturalist, to an area where up to four species of seals can be observed.

Cost: $4 per person.  

FAIRYTALE THEATER

Where: Plaza Theatrical Productions, Bellmore Theatre, 222 Pettit Ave., Bellmore(516-599-6870)

What: Production of “Sleeping Beauty”

When: Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11 a.m.

Why go: See a live performance of a much loved fairytale.

Cost: $10/ticket  

SPLASH OF SUMMER FUN

Where:   Roosevelt and Nassau Boulevard, West Hempstead

What: Swim in the indoor pool

Why go: Don those bathing suits and head on over for a swim to remember what summer feels like.
