July 12: School Boards Meet, Harry Potter Marathon, Summer Concerts and More

It may be summer but both the Malverne and West Hempstead school districts have business to attend to tonight as both boards of education convene for meetings.

Today we also look at summer fun including free concerts, a movie marathon for Harry Potter fans and one of the area's best attractions.

  1. School Boards: Both the West Hempstead and Malverne Boards of Education will hold their monthly business and annual reorganization meetings tonight. West Hempstead's school board will convene at 7:30 p.m. at the administration building on Chestnut Street, while Malverne's meeting will start at 8 p.m. in the high school library.
  2. Harry Potter Marathon: In honor of the release of the final film in the Harry Potter series this week, the village of Malverne Youth Board will host showings of the previous films starting tonight. Children ages 9 and up can watch "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" at 8 p.m. at Village Hall and return on Wednesday and Thursday for the "Half Blood Prince" and "Deathly Hallows Part I."
  3. West Hempstead Concerts: Several families flocked to the West Hempstead Little League Field near Echo Park Sunday evening to enjoy a little night music courtesy of the North Shore Pops Concert Band. The group performed several classic numbers to kick off a series of free summer concerts co-hosted by the West Hempstead Community Support and Civic Association and Astoria Saving Bank.
