  1. School Budget Scrutinized: Residents of the West Hempstead school district sat through a three-plus hour meeting Monday night to discuss the first half of the budget. They joined board members and school administrators in  scrutinizing the details of the non-instructional items in the current proposal. Read about the highlights of the meeting later today on Patch.
  2. Malverne Mayor Seeks Re-Election: Continuing our coverage of the village elections in Malverne, Patch recently sat down with current Mayor Patricia Norris McDonald, who is running unopposed for re-election. McDonald used this time to reflect on the accomplishments of the current administration, including Trustees Michael Bailey and James Callahan, who are also seeking another term.   3. Moms Ponder Privacy: If you came across your kid's diary, would you read it? Your teen leaves his phone on the counter, do you scan through their texts?   4. Water Check-up: After - and their disgusting samples of brown water - before the president of Long Island American Water, Malverne residents have started to see some progress. It's been over a week since the water company flushed every single hydrant in Malverne, Lakeview and West Hempstead to remove some of the sediment that had backed up. Patch with residents on the final day of flushing and some did report a noticeable improvement in the water, but we wanted to know if it was a just temporary fix. We recently checked in with the locals again. See what they had to say.
  5. Village Board Meeting: There's much going on in the village of Malverne these days, from the to thegrand opening and to name a few. Come out to the Village Board of Trustees meeting tonight, starting at 7 p.m. in Village Hall, or if you can't make it, stay tuned for Patch's coverage tomorrow.
