Today is shaping up to be a busy one in Malverne and West Hempstead.

The Long Island American Water iron removal plant in Malverne is expected to be put into service, the West Hempstead school district will be diving into the second half of their budget and the Malverne Board of Education and the West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly business meetings tonight.

  1. Budget Crunch: The West Hempstead school district will gather at 7:30 p.m. in the Middle School cafeteria for an in-depth look at the latest draft of the 2011-2012 budget, focusing just on instructional items. If you missed the first budget review workshop on March 1, which dealt with non-instructional items, click here to see what cuts, increases and potential savings were discussed.
  2. Board Meeting: The Malverne Board of Education also meets tonight. It will hold its monthly business meeting in the High School library starting at 8 p.m. No doubt the proposed changes to the district's Wellness Policy and the 2011-2012 budget will be some of the key topics addressed. Iron Removal Plant: After months of waiting for the Long Island American Water company to bring the iron removal plant it erected in Malverne into service, residents may finally get the relief from their brown water blues that they have been promised. After samples taken from the troublesome tank in the facility showed that the paint inside had finally dried, LIAW Friday afternoon to move forward with plans to bring the plant on-line on Tuesday.   4. West Hempstead Chamber: The West Hempstead Chamber of Commerce will gather for its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the People's United Bank, formerly known as the Bank of Smithtown.
