Nov. 10: Firefighters Memorial, Vets Day Plans, Playground Concerns and More

A look at the top stories for this Thursday in Malverne and West Hempstead.

From the volunteer firefighters to the military service men, it's important to take the time to honor those who have made sacrifices to protect our way of life.

On Sunday morning, Malverne firefighters held a special memorial service to remember the members who have died (Look for video and photos today.) and over the next today, local schools and communities will pay tribue to our veterans.

  1. Veterans Day: Local schools and libraries will be closed Friday in observance of Veterans Day. At 11 a.m. ceremonies will take place in Malverne at the gazebo in Reese Park and outside American Legion Cathedral Post 1087 in West Hempstead.   2. Firefighters Honored: On Sunday morning, Malverne firefighters held a memorial service to honor the members who they have lost, some of which were veterans killed while serving their country. Watch footage from the ceremony and get the story later today.

  4. Bishop Awards Residents: Two local residents - one from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Malverne and another from St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hempstead - were recently presented with awards from the bishop. Get their stories later today.
