The streets of Malverne and West Hempstead were as clear as the skies overhead Saturday morning.
Hurricane Irene isn't expected to hit Malverne and West Hempstead until late Saturday or early Sunday but already many residents are heeding the warnings and hunkering down inside.
These photos were taken Saturday morning around the neighborhood of the desserted streets and clear skies. The calm before the hurricane.
On the train platforms, signs indicated that the Long Island Rail Road would be shutting down its service at noon.
