PREVIEW: 2011 Lighting of Malverne

On Dec. 3, the village of Malverne will light up with holiday cheer as a long-time tradition is celebrated once again.
It's time for the Lighting of Malverne.
The festivities will begin in the morning, starting with Breakfast with Santa, a free screening of "The Smurfs" movie with Santa at Malverne Cinema, and bowling with, Santa ofcourse, at San-Dee Lanes. Then, at 2 p.m. there will be a special holiday-themed Storytime at the library.

The main event takes place at night though. The village lighting will kick off at 4 p.m. with a performance by the Dever School band, followed by a parade of elves and Santa Claus down Hempstead Avenue, led by the state-champion Pride of Malverne Marching Band.
The tree near the Malverne train station will come to life around 5:15 p.m and then, throughout the night there will be carolers and dancers, a living nativity, carriage rides, ice sculpting, visits with Santa and other fun activities.
