Up to 20 Inches of Snow Predicted to Fall in Malverne-West Hempstead

NOAA estimates that the blizzard could cover the area in 20 inches of snow.

The NOAA-National Weather Service predicts that the area that encompasses both Malverne and West Hempstead could receive up to 20 inches of snow once this blizzard passes through.

As of 1p.m. Sunday, the forecast called for snow throughout this afternoon, heavy at times, with daytime total accumulations ranging from 5 to 9 inches. During the day, the high is expected to be 29 degrees with north winds around 20mph and gusts as high as 47mph.

The snow is expected to continue thoughout Malverne and West Hempstead Sunday night, with wind gusts as high as 55mph and temperatures as low as 21 degrees. The area is expected to receive an additional 10 to 14 inches of snow accumulation during the night.

Monday morning may bring more snow. The chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Expect widespread blowing of snow and a chance of flurries before 10am, then widespread blowing snow after 10am.
