Village to Host Patriots' Weekend, Centennial/Memorial Parade

Lynbrook's 100th anniversary celebrated this weekend.

Lynbrook residents have a lot to be thankful for: home rule, hard-working people, great businesses and local organizations.

This weekend will be a celebration of the village, its 100 years of incorporation, as well as honoring those village residents who served their country in times of war.

Beginning on Sunday, the Village of Lynbrook will hold the first of two events honoring veterans and commemorating Lynbrook's centennial. On May 29, the village hosts Patriots' Weekend at , featuring the Mayor's Picnic, appearances by the USO Girls, a magic show for the children, musical entertainment, a softball game, and concluding with a fireworks show.

The next day, the Memorial/Centennial Parade will be held, starting at 9:45 a.m. The Lynbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2307 will hold an assembly at 8:45 a.m. At 11 a.m., veterans will gather for a ceremony honoring fallen soldiers at the Doughboy Monument.

Pat Cardone, commander of the , says that he feels honored to have the veterans recognized during the 100th anniversary celebration, as they, too, are a big part of Lynbrook's history.

"The veterans of this community are part of that 100 years," Cardone said. "What a time to honor those men and women who didn't come home than on the 100th anniversary."
