Week in Review

A look at the top stories in Malverne and West Hempstead for the week of Nov. 7- 13.

This was a busy week for residents of Malverne and West Hempstead, who celebrated great accomplishments while also dealing with some setbacks.

The week started out with some shocking news, as Malverne school officials, students and residents in the district awoke early Sunday morning to learn that firefighters from neighboring Lynbrook responded to that broke out in three school buses parked at Davison Avenue School.

on Sunday to arrange alternative transportation for the parochial high school students who relied on these district-owned buses to get to school.

In the days that followed the Lynbrook Fire Department released of the incident and of the fire to be arson, meaning someone intentionally started the blaze. At its monthly business meeting, the more details about the investigation and announced their intention to replace all three buses.

At this meeting, the board also which taxpayers living in the school district will be asked , and congratulated the Pride of Malverne Marching Band on .

On Veterans Day, separate ceremonies were held in and to recognize the local men and women who have served in the armed forces.  Patch also spoke with and to hear their stories of service and sacrifice to their country.

Earlier in the week, Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead also reflected on the men and women who were victims of a horrific attack by the Nazis on the anniversary of inviting a survivor to speak to the congregation.
