Funds Being Raised for Israeli Boy Seeking Treatment in NY

A Hewlett woman is collecting funds online for the family of an Israeli boy with a severe form of anemia.

Seven-year-old Aviel Beckman, who was diagnosed four years ago with Fanconi anemia and aplastic anemia, recently arrived in New York and will go to Sloan Memorial Kettering Center Thursday for a stem cell transplantation. The treatment lasts eight weeks and he will have to remain in the U.S. for two months afterward.

Elana Magreli’s GoFundMe page is raising money for the family’s medical expenses and living needs, such as food and clothing, while they are here in America. Aviel’s parents have not been able to work since they are in and out of hospitals, Magreli said. Their other three children are staying with their grandmother in Israel while Aviel receives treatment.

“The Beckman family have deep trust and faith in God, and good will in people,” reads the page. “Thank you for considering taking part in this kind act.”

The page has raised $2,563 by 34 people as of Wednesday.
