Malverne Resident Spearheads Celebration to Honor Veterans

Too many of our veterans efforts are going unrecognized, and Malverne resident Tim Sullivan said he wants to change this.

Sullivan recently announced that the Malverne American Legion Post #44 will host a celebration to honor veterans on Saturday. The event takes place from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. and includes dinner, drinks and live entertainment, with proceeds benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project.

“I’ve come to the realization that we’ve kind of lost focus of the meaning of Veterans Day,” Sullivan said at Monday night’s Lynbrook Village meeting.

Between Malverne and Lynbrook, Sullivan said there are an enormous amount of veterans, those who anywhere from 20 to 50 years old, who “rarely recognized.”

“I know that there are many young veterans living in our immediate communities of Malverne, Lynbrook and West Hempstead,” Sullivan said. “While we may have celebrated their return from war, we often overlook them as simply a neighbor at the store, bringing their kids to school or even mowing their lawn.”

“I thought it would be a good idea to recognize these individuals in particular for their accomplishments, help re-fill the ranks of the aging American Legion membership and do it all for a great cause,” he said.

The event is $50 and donations can be made at the door. For more info., contact Sullivan at 516-551-0042.
