$1,000 Raised at Malverne Community Theatre Event

Proceeds go towards the production of new, original shows; event held on August 4 at Uva Rossa.

The "Cocktails and Curtains" fundraiser for the Malverne Community Theatre was a smashing success.

Held on August 4 at Uva Rossa Wine Bar in Malverne, the event raised more than $1,000, which will go directly towards the creation of new, original shows.

"It went really well, I was definitely happy with the turnout," said Director David Coonan.

The fundraiser cost $40 to attend and included dinner, wine and sangria, as well as the performance of a 15-minute short play called "Fairely Speaking," created by playwright Steve Strangio.

"We had to have something with theater," Coonan said. "It was really well received."

Next up, the theater is planning an Improv show in Malverne on September 20 and 21 at the Malverne Bible Church. Stay with Patch for more details on the show.
