A Lynbrook school was among 67 schools across Nassau and Suffolk Counties classified as "reward schools," Newsday reported. They were commended for their academic achievement by New York State.
Lynbrook High School is invited to compete for up to $150,000 in annual grants, which will be awarded to five schools for up to two years.
According to the Education Department, Reward Schools are schools that have either made the most progress or schools that have the highest achievement in the state and do not have significant gaps in student achievement that are not being closed. Across New York State, 250 schools in 164 districts received this rating. According to the NYSED's Web site, reward schools may be able to seek expanded or expedited variances from certain provisions of the Commissioner's Regulations beginning in the 2013-14 school year, after consultation with Education Department staff and the Board of Regents.
