"Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv" - a successful show for a great charity

The Malverne Community Theatre teamed up with The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer to present "Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv", the third theatrical fundraiser for the foundation.

Last weekend, members of the Malverne Community Theatre teamed up with The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer to present "Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv" in Hicksville.

The show was structured like the popular television show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" and featured four performers and a host playing a selection of improv games to a very appreciative audience. The show featured the talents of Hicksville residents James Weippert, Michael Pagano, John Ortiz, Potoula Anagnostakos, and host Matthew Waldman. Some of the performers have appeared in previous MCT productions.

This is the third time that the foundation has put on a theatrical fundraiser to help raise money for their cause, and the first time that MCT has helped co-produce it.

"The Sarah Grace Foundation is proud to have worked with David Coonan, President of Malverne Community Theatre, who has shared his talent in directing our third theatrical fundraising event  'Unrehearsed: A Night of Improv'," Matthew Weippert, president and chairman of The Sarah Grace Foundation said.

The Sarah Grace Foundation is now in its 10th year of supporting children with cancer and their families in memory of Sarah Grace Weippert who lost a courageous battle with leukemia when she was 12 years old.  The Foundation is an all volunteer charity that provides many programs and financial support to help ease the burden that childhood cancer places on the family.

"It continues to be an honor to help the Sarah Grace Foundation further their mission of helping children with cancer and their families," David Coonan, director of the show and president of the Malverne Community Theatre said. "The show went over very well and I'm very proud of the performers. Everyone worked extremely hard to bring this show to life, and I hope that we're able to contribute to the foundation for many years to come."

Weippert noted how crucial fundraiser events are for the foundation, and how critical they are to the "mission of providing for children with cancer, their sibling(s) and their families; we are extremely grateful to the community that has continued to support our efforts."

Coonan said "I look forward to this show every year - it's a lot of fun and supports a tremendous cause."

Perhaps the "Unrehearsed" troupe will grace a Malverne stage at some point in the future.
