Man Of Steel Review

The Mommy's Guide in house Daddy blogger reviews the Man Of Steel Movie from Warner Bros!

So the next attempt at the Superman franchise premieres tonight at midnight and last night I had the privilege of an advanced screening of the 3D version.  We have a great review for those of you still unsure about seeing this film from Daddy Blogger Mike Aucone!
Now mostly everyone knows the background story of Superman so I was not expecting too many surprises in the plot, and after the last installment a few years back my expectations were extremely  low.  I was very surprised to say the least.  This was a much darker version of the story with some changes to Superman’s history.  I will not give away too much but I will warn you before I do.

The film opened with an incredible visual sequence that was enhanced with the 3D.  As the story progresses you are given a different portrayal of the protagonist throughout periods of his life; the struggles of a youth, adolescent and even as an adult.  He knows he is not just an ordinary kid from Kansas but some of the sequences may not be the best for some children.  The movie is rated PG-13 for a good reason  and depending on the age of your child or your own preferences, you might want to think twice.

                                   *****SPOILER ALERT*******
One example would be after young Clark saved a school bus full of children (that you see plummet over a bridge into the water and the children are submerged and drowning!) he is spotted by a kid and is confronted by his father since he could have been exposed.  Clark asked, “What should I have done?  Let them die?”  his father responded, “Yes”.    I didn’t remember that part in the original storylines….
                                    *****END SPOILER ALERT*****

Without giving away much more I was surprised at how good this movie was, but of course there were a few short comings that can be expected.  There were plenty of your typical Hollywood cliché’s and some unexplained moments of the film where I asked myself, “what just happened?” but I did leave  the theater exhausted from all the action scenes.  Just like the changes that were done from the last campy “Batman” movies to the newer “Dark Knight” series, this movie had some surprises as well as a more ominous tone.  There was not a lot of humor in the movie at all and I feel it did not need any.   I won’t spoil the movie, you have to see it for yourself.  My final opinion:  Awesome movie that should not be missed this summer, but heed the PG-13 rating
