War Veteran Howard Cummings, of Malverne, Dies

Funeral services will be held Wednesday and Thursday in Malverne.

Howard Cummings -- a long-time Malverne resident and veteran of World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars -- died Sunday. 

Cummings was devoted to his wife of 70 years, Frances Wisniewski, and his children Rev. Maurice Cummings, Ph.D., Frances Brown (Gifford) and Nancy Cummings. He was also cherished by his grandchildren Henry and Silas Brown, and his great grandchild Damian Brown, according to an obituary published in Newsday.

Retired Petty Officer Cummings, served 30 years in the U.S. Navy, in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Naval Intelligence Professionals, and the Usher Society of Our Lady of Lourdes, reports Newsday.

A wake will be held Wednesday, Jan. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Malverne Funeral Home located 330 Hempstead Ave. Cummings' funeral Mass will take place Thursday at 9:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church located at 65Wright Ave., Malverne followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
