Story updated at 12:04 p.m. on June 9.

Students were allegedly threatened with losing prom and graduation on the last day of classes Friday morning after anti-Semitic graffiti was found behind Lynbrook High School.

A photo sent to Lynbrook Patch confirmed that a graphic anti-Semitic phrase, along with several other graffiti markings, was posted on the back of the school.

Among the phrases were "F%@* Jew," "Smokey Joe" and "563."

According to Urban Dictionary, 563 is "A street gang established in Lynbrook" made up of mostly Caucasian and Hispanic males. "They 'Jump each other in' following a blood in blood out rule." The "563" relates to the Lynbrook area code 11563.

One resident told Patch that the high school is "basically on lockdown" and that students have to be escorted to and from bathrooms.

The resident also said that if the students responsible for the graffiti did not confess by 2 p.m., students would lose their prom and potentially their graduation.

Lynbrook Police were the high school Friday investigating the incident.

The Superintendent of Lynbrook Schools, Dr. Santo Barbarino, released the following statement Saturday morning:

"On Friday, it was brought to the district's attention that an exterior wall at Lynbrook High School was vandalized with disturbing phrases and other inappropriate markings. The district immediately contacted the Lynbrook Police Department who launched an investigation in order to determine the parties responsible. The district supplied law enforcement officials with surveillance video obtained from the school’s security cameras and is conducting its own internal investigation.

"If you have any information pertaining to the above mentioned incident, please contact the Lynbrook Police Department or Lynbrook High School Principal Joseph Rainis at 516-887-0200."

The school district has not confirmed nor denied the alleged threatened cancellation as of Saturday morning.

The Lynbrook prom is currently scheduled for 8 p.m. on June 21 at the Milleridge Cottage.
