Blaze Damages Home in West Hempstead

The Lakeview Fire department responded to the scene on Cleveland Street.

A kitchen fire set a blaze in a house located on Cleveland Street in West Hempstead Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started just after 12 p.m.  Firefighters from the Lakeview Fire Department responded to the scene and they arrived to find heavy smoke conditions coming from the first floor of the building.  The occupants had already evacuated to the safety of a neighbor’s house across the street.

Firefighters entered the dwelling to find out that the fire, which started in the kitchen, spread to the overhead cabinets.  The flames were quickly extinguished and companies remained on the scene while the house was vented with fans.
