Brooklyn Man Arrested in Lynbrook on Gun Charges

After fleeing a traffic stop on Sunrise Highway, police said the suspect fled on foot with a loaded gun in his waistband.

A police chase in Lynbrook Saturday evening ended with the arrest of a Brooklyn man for criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, Jean Joseph, 23, was riding in the front passenger seat of a 2012 Chevy, which was pulled over on Sunrise Highway by Lynbrook Police after they observed the driver make an improper U-turn and fail to signal a lane change. As officers approached the vehicle, which was stopped at the corner of Sunrise and Vincent Avenue, Joseph allegedly fled with a loaded handgun in his waistband.

A foot pursuit ensued but officers were able to apprehend Joseph on Elm Street around 4:35 p.m. The gun was recovered and no injuries were reported.

Joseph was arrested and charged with second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead. The driver of the Chevy was issued two uniform traffic summonses and was released.
