Car Strikes Hydrant in Lakeview, Floods Streets

Driver loses control of vehicle Tuesday afternoon on Champlain Avenue.

Champlain Avenue and surrounding streets in Lakeview were under water Tuesday after a vehicle slammed into a fire hydrant, causing a flood.

The driver of the car lost control and struck a hydrant located on Champlain near Ontario Road after noon. No one was seriously injured, but the hydrant became dislodged and water started pouring out immediately, flooding the neighborhood.

Police summoned emergency water crews to the scene. Curious residents stood outside their homes and were amazed by the amount of water flowing down their street.
