Cops: Man Threatened People, Officer With Box Cutter

A Valley Stream man was arrested last Monday after he allegedly stole a bicycle and threatened people with a box cutter, according to police.

A second man was also arrested in the theft of the bicycle, police said.

At 5:55 p.m. on April 30, the 34-year-old male victim rode his bicycle to the King Kullen at 231 West Merrick Rd. and left it in the store vestibule. When he returned, he saw that the bike was apparently stolen and called 911, according to police.

A short time later, he saw the defendant, Stephan Seal, 22, allegedly riding his bicycle in the store parking lot. He confronted Seal and struggled with him in an attempt to recover the bike, police said. Bystanders and store employees saw what was taking place and helped the victim in getting his bike back.

Seal then allegedly took out a box cutter and held it up in a “threatening manner” to keep those who assisted the victim at bay, police said.

A police officer then arrived at the scene and saw the defendant allegedly wielding the weapon in his hand. After repeated verbal demands by the officer to drop his weapon, Seal, who allegedly initially refused and continued to hold it up to the officer in a threatening manner, eventually complied, dropping the box cutter to the ground. He was placed under arrest.

No injuries were sustained during the incident.

After police reviewed store surveillance video, they found a second subject was responsible for the initial theft of the bicycle. Daniel Wisloh, 20, also of Valley Stream, was located in the parking lot and placed under arrest for the theft without incident.
