Crimes Nearby: Sleeping DWI in Garden City, Two RVC Muggings

A round-up of the top crime stories of the week from neighboring communities.

Police: Woman Thrown to the Ground, Robbed Near RVC LIRR Station

A woman was thrown to the ground and robbed of her cell phone while walking along N. Centre Avenue Sunday night, according to Nassau County Police.

The First Squad reports that a 36-year-old female was walking in front of 100 N. Centre Ave. after coming off the train when she was approached from behind by two suspects.

One of the suspects picked her up and threw her to the ground, police reported. The second suspect allegedly took the victim's phone from her hand and they fled on foot northbound on N. Center Avenue.

80-Year-Old Couple Mugged in Parking Lot Near Sunrise

An 80-year-old couple was mugged Wednesday night as they were walking in a parking lot near Sunrise Highway and Park Avenue in Rockville Centre.

According to Nassau County detectives, at 7:29 p.m., a male suspect approached an 80-year-old woman and her 83-year-old husband, who were walking in the rear parking lot of 278 Sunrise Highway.

The suspect pulled on the woman's purse and pushed her to the ground, police said. The husband attempted to chase the suspect, but tripped and fell to the ground.

Arrests

  • On April 23 at 7:55 p.m., Prince A. Clifford, 22, of Freeport, was arrested for obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following an investigation by police personnel at Municipal Parking Field No. 7 and Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 23 at 6:15 p.m., Laurence Che Watson, 23, of Brooklyn, was arrested for reckless driving, disorderly conduct and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel at Sunrise Highway and N. Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 24 at 6:04 p.m., Jony Zarate, 43, of Island Park, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Oceanside Road and Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 25 at 11:39 p.m., Hameen Bilal, 58, of Freeport, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree, vehicle and traffic law violations, and an open arrest warrant following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Merrick Road and N. Long Beach Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 26 at 7:35 a.m., Richard P. Rider III, 27, of Oceanside, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of a hypodermic needle and vehicle and traffic law violation following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Municipal Parking Field No. 3 in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 26 at 7:35 a.m., Benjamin M Z Maynard, 27, of Merrick, was arrested for criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and criminal possession of a hypodermic needle following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Municipal Parking Field No. 3 in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 26 at 1:55 p.m., Farah Lamarre, 35, of Rockville Centre was arrested for assault in the second degree, possession of a dangerous weapon in the fourth degree and resisting arrest following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Hempstead Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 27 at 4:11 p.m., Daniel G. Forster, 41, of Oceanside was arrested for assault in the third degree following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Merrick Road in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 5, a Garden City police officer observed a 37-year-old male from Port Washington sleeping in his vehicle at a green traffic light on Rockaway Avenue at Old Country Road. The vehicle was in drive and the subject’s foot was on the brake. The officer was able to reach into the vehicle and turn the ignition off. The subject was arrested for DWI (.12 percent blood alcohol content), impeding traffic and unlicensed operation.
  • On May 5, a Garden City police officer was on patrol when he observed a vehicle in a road rage incident where a driver cut off other vehicles. Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, a 33-year-old male from Hempstead, was arrested for aggravated unlicensed in the second degree for having 14 license suspensions, unsafe lane usage and an unregistered vehicle. The vehicle was impounded.
Assault
  • On April 26 at 12:55 p.m., a complainant from Hempstead reported that sometime between 2 a.m. and 2:10 a.m. on April 20, a patient from Roosevelt assaulted him while working security at Mercy Medical Center, located at 1000 N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre.
  • On April 27 at 7:05 p.m., an 11-year-old complainant from Rockville Centre reported that at approximately 6:40 p.m., an unknown male, approximately 16 years old, approached him at the Morgan Days Field basketball court in Rockville Centre and shot him with a pellet gun resulting in nine small wounds to his stomach and right arm.
Juvenile Investigation
  • On April 27 at 11:40 p.m., a 15-year-old complainant from S. Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that she was provided with cookies containing marijuana from an acquaintance while at a Rockville Centre residence on Seaman Avenue.
