Crimes Nearby: Weapons Found, ID Theft

Find out what crimes occured in the villages surrounding Lynbrook.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Five Towns:

Police arrested a “potential madman” on Tuesday after a routine assignment in Woodmere that led to the discovery of a large cache of explosives, weapons and marijuana, according to County Executive Edward Mangano and police officials.

Investigators found “enough explosive material to level the house and possibly the block,” which included 15 destructive devices, particularly pipe bombs, 15 improvised grenades and 50 pounds of ingredients that could be used to make explosives at 237 Narrow Lane, as well as about 100 handguns and 20 long guns, police officials said during a briefing on Wednesday.

Marc Ringel, 53, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and will be arraigned on explosives, weapons and drug charges. Police are still investigating his background and potential motives, but say they have no knowledge of him being connected to extremist groups or terrorists.

At 9:40 a.m., Victor Picone, 24, who lives on Avalon Road, was seen allegedly climbing a ladder and prying open a second story window of another Avalon Road residence, police said. Police officers responded to the scene and found Picone inside the house, where he had allegedly took an uknown amount of money. He was then placed into custody.

Picone was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Rockville Centre:

On Feb. 23 at 4 p.m., a complainant from Lincoln Court in Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) made unauthorized transactions totaling $250 on his Chase credit card account without authorization.

On Feb. 24 at 10:15 a.m., a complainant from Princeton Street in Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) opened a line of credit with his Pay Pal MasterCard and made unauthorized transactions totaling $864.11

On Feb. 20 at 1:45 p.m., a complainant from Merrick Road in Rockville Centre reported that unknown person(s) placed graffiti on the wall of his law office without authorization.

On Feb. 20 at 12:40 p.m., a complainant from the Rockville Centre Fire Department N. Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that sometime between Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. and Feb. 20 at 11:30 a.m., unknown person(s) placed graffiti on the wall of the firehouse located at 39 S. Centre Ave. in Rockville Centre without authorization.

On Feb. 22 at 3:18 p.m., police personnel identified graffiti placed on a street sign located at N. Village Avenue and Lexington Street in Rockville Centre.

On Feb. 22 at 8:35 a.m., police personnel identified graffiti placed on a Village of Rockville Centre dumpster located at 39 S. Centre Ave. in Rockville Centre.

On Feb. 22 at 3:28 p.m., police personnel identified graffiti placed on a stop sign located at Harvard Avenue and Dorchester Road in Rockville Centre.
