Crimes Nearby: Woman Arrested for DWI on Train Tracks

A round-up of the top crime stories of the week from neighboring communities.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department, Rockville Centre Police Department and Garden City Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

  • On May 25 at 10:42 p.m., Frederick Oliver, 50, of Long Beach, was arrested for petit larceny that occurred in Hempstead on May 8 following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Front Street in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 26 at 3:06 a.m., Michael A. Benko, 21, of Millerton, N.Y., was arrested for driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and vehicle and traffic law violations following an investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of Merrick Road and N. Centre Avenue in Rockville Centre.
  • On May 26, Garden City and MTA officers responded for a report of a car on the railroad tracks east of New Hyde Park Road. The driver of the auto, a 26-year-old female from New Hyde Park, was traveling south on New Hyde Park Road before she mistakenly made a left turn onto the railroad tracks. The officers at the scene immediately safeguarded and secured the scene by stopping all railroad traffic. The driver was subsequently arrested for DWI (.08 percent blood alcohol content) and obstructing a railroad crossing.
  • On May 31, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle for speeding (50 MPH in a 30-mph zone) on Franklin Avenue and Fourth Street. The driver, a 54-year-old male from Hempstead, was arrested for eight open driver's license violations, unlicensed operation, uninsured operation and speeding.
  • On June 1, a Garden City police officer arrested a 22-year-old female from North Bellmore and charged her with grand larceny for the theft of more than $1,100 in merchandise from Lord & Taylor.
  • On June 2, a Garden City police officer arrested a 36-year-old female from Rosedale for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on May 26 where the subject struck a parked vehicle on Raymond Court and left the scene without stopping.
  • On June 2, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road for unsafe operation. The subject was arrested for DWI-Impaired (.06 percent blood alcohol content) and two unsafe lane violations, unlicensed operation and not wearing a seatbelt.
  • On June 4, a Garden City police officer arrested a 28-year-old female from Valley Stream for the shoplifting of a shirt from Lord & Taylor. The subject was also charged with assault after it was determined that the subject grabbed and pushed away the store security officer who was attempting to arrest her, causing the security officer to receive bruises and contusions to her arms.
  • On June 4, a Garden City police officer stopped a vehicle on Clinton Road by Brook Street for expired registration and inspection stickers. Upon an investigation, the driver, a 47-year-old female from Hempstead, was arrested for a suspended license due to a previous DWI offense, having five additional license suspensions, suspended registration, uninspected auto, unlicensed operation and uninsured operation.
ABC Violation
  • On May 25 at 4:09 a.m., Scott Bruguelas, 25, of Long Beach, was issued an appearance ticket for ABC violation disorderly premise following a disturbance investigation by police personnel in the vicinity of The Beach House, located 21A S. Park Ave. in Rockville Centre.
Burglary
  • On May 25 at 1:15 a.m., the owner from Thai Table, located at 88A N. Village Ave. in Rockville Centre, reported that sometime since 11:10 p.m. on May 24, an unknown person(s) damaged the glass front door to the restaurant and removed $150 from the cash register.
Harassment
  • On May 21 at 11 a.m., a Rockville Centre resident from Hamilton Street reported his rear neighbor threatened him after he cut branches that were hanging over his property.
  • On May 23 at 10:14 a.m., a complainant from Elmont reported that she received voicemail messages while working at Front Street in Rockville Centre from a male residing in Woodmere causing annoyance and alarm.
  • On May 23 at 4:15 p.m., a complainant from Banks Avenue in Rockville Centre reported that he received telephone calls from a female acquaintance causing annoyance and alarm.
  • On May 26 at 4:41 p.m., a complainant from Jamaica reported that she was harassed by two unknown males while working at Subway, located at 88 N. Village Ave., Rockville Centre causing annoyance and alarm.
