Local Auxiliary Police Unit Seeking Members

Recruitment open house to be held at West Hempstead Public Library on June 13 from 7-9 p.m.

The Nassau County Auxiliary Police Fourth Precinct North Unit will hold a community recruitment open house at West Hempstead Public Library on June 13 from 7-9 p.m.

The unit covers the communities of Elmont, Franklin Square, Garden City South, Lakeview, Malverne Oaks, Malverne Park, North Lynbrook, North Valley Stream and West Hempstead.

Residents who are interested in serving the community as an auxiliary police officer will have the opportunity to speak with active officers in the program and review their qualifications for joining.

Applicants must be a United States citizen, a resident of Nassau County, and between the ages of 18 and 60. They must also possess no record of a misdemeanor or felony, a valid New York State driver’s license, and a high-school diploma or GED. Applicants must not have any pending criminal charges and must submit to a background investigation including fingerprinting, a physical exam, drug testing, and a psychological evaluation.

“The Auxiliary Police Program enables the Nassau County Police Department to focus on priority assignments by utilizing Auxiliary Police Officers on non critical assignments”, said Inspector Neal Rosenblatt, Chairperson of the Nassau County Auxiliary Police Executive Board and Commanding Officer of Fourth Precinct North Unit. “The Auxiliary Police Program is a direct link to local law enforcement through community involvement. Auxiliary Police Officers have an investment in their local communities – they are the residents and business owners in their community.”
