Malverne F.D. Stamps Out Small Basement Fire

Firefighters respond to Malverne home on Hempstead Avenue Sunday night.

A small fire broke out Sunday night in the basement of a Malverne home located on Hempstead Avenue across from Grace Lutheran Church.

"Upon arrival we had a heavy smoke condition," Malverne Fire Chief Danny Morgan told Patch at the scene. "It took us a while to locate the basement stairs and the fire itself."

When they did they were able to contain the fire to one room, a kitchen in the basement, and extinguished the small blaze within 10 minutes, he said.
