Malverne PD: Assault Arrest, Skimmer Found on Astoria ATM

A weekly rundown of crimes and arrests reported in the village of Malverne.

The following information was supplied by the Malverne Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Case Reports

  • The manager of the located at 363 Hempstead Ave. notified the Malverne Police Department at approximately 8 p.m. on Aug. 12 that an unknown person(s) did attach a magnetic card skimmer on the entry door to the ATM vestibule, and did also attach a pin hole camera on the ATM. An investigation by the Malverne Police and the Nassau County Police Department's Crimes Against Property Squad revealed that no customers' identities had been compromised.  The devices were removed from the ATM for further investigation by Malverne Police, Nassau County detectives and Astoria bank security.

  • A 31-year-old Malverne resident was arrested on Aug. 12 by Malverne Police Officer Anthony Castellano and Sergeant Thomas Martini at 12:30 p.m. for an assault that took place in his home. The subject was transported to Malverne Police Headquarters for processing and then transported to Nassau County Detention for arraignment the next morning.
  • A 40-year-old Valley Stream man was arrested on Aug. 15 at 10:40 a.m. by Malverne Police Officer Kenneth Padilla for aggravated harassment after an investigation by the Malverne Police Department. The subject was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
  • A 32-year-old Flushing man was arrested on Aug. 16 by Sergeant Wade Engel and Police Officer Nicholas Gullo at 6:09 p.m. after he entered on Hempstead Avenue and tried to pass a forged prescription for oxycodone from a local physician. The subject was arrested and taken to the Nassau County Police Department's Fifth Precinct Detective squad for processing. The subject was processed and then transported to Nassau County Detention to be held overnight. The subject was to be arraigned in First District Court the following day.
