Nassau PD: Phone Scam Victim, DWI Arrests

A rundown of recent crimes and arrests reported in the Fourth Precinct.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate guilt.

Arrests

- On August 21 at 4:30 p.m., Shanice Jackson, 21, of Brooklyn, was arrested and charged with grand larceny for shoplifting at Stop & Shop, located at 50 Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead.

 - On August 24 at 4:40 p.m., Edward Bordero, 44, of Glendale, was arrested at Stop & Shop in West Hempstead and charged with petty larceny.

On August 19 at 3:05 p.m., Donald Desimone, of East Rockaway, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated on Atlantic Avenue and Ocean Avenue in East Rockaway.

- On August 24 at 12:35 a.m., Sylvia Fortunato, 50, of North Hills, was arrested on Ocean Avenue and Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook and charged with driving while intoxicated and two violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

- On August 23 at 2:15 a.m., Joanne Gugel, age 39 of Uniondale was arrested on the Southern State Parkway and Hempstead Avenue in Lakeview and charged with driving while intoxicated.

- On August 24 at 3:57 a.m., Elvis Aguiluz, age 18 of Elmont was arrested on Hempstead Turnpike and Marlboro Road in West Hempstead and charged with driving while intoxicated and one violation of the vehicle and traffic law.

- On August 25 at 2:18 a.m., Luis Claros, age 30 of Annapolis, MD was arrested on Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead and charged with driving while intoxicated.

- On August 23 at 3:03 p.m., Jenna Mantovani, 22, of East Rockaway, was arrested at Main Street and Murdock Road in East Rockaway and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating motor vehicle without interlock, reckless driving and 12 violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

 Case Reports

- On August 21, a complainant on Washington Street in West Hempstead received a call from an unknown suspect who she believed to be her grandson. He requested her to wire money and she complied. She later discovered she was a victim of a scam.

- Sometime between August 25 at 3:30 a.m. and August 26 at 6:25 a.m., an unknown suspect removed tires and rims from complainant’s vehicle on Champlain Avenue in Lakeview.

- Sometime between August 18 at 3 a.m. and August 20 at 10 a.m., an unknown suspect stole an iPhone from the complainant’s unlocked vehicle on Davison Avenue in East Rockaway.

- Sometime between 7:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m., an unknown person broke the window of a complainant’s vehicle on Hempstead Avenue in West Hempstead while it was parked on the street.

- Sometime between 10 p.m. on August 21 and 8:50 p.m. on August 23, an unknown suspect slashed all four tires on a complainant’s vehicle, at Holly Place in Lakeview.
